Sheridan E. Hicks Obituary (1916 - 2018)

Sheridan E. Hicks, 102, of Pana passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 in Heritage Health--Pana. He was born March 7, 1916 in Bingham, IL, to the late Rolla & Vera (Porterfield) Hicks. Sheridan lived most of his childhood in Fillmore and graduated from high school there. During the Depression, Sheridan moved to Chicago to help his family financially. He lived in Dyersburg, TN & Peoria, before moving to Pana to make his home. He had owned a cab business before working for Farm Supply as a truck driver for 29 years. Sheridan was a member of the Pana Elks Lodge #1261, Pana Masonic Lodge AF&AM #226, & Pana Moose Lodge #1015. He collected car parts & loved to work on cars. Sheridan Hicks and Betty Hill Harper were married on August 28, 1946 in Hillsboro and she survives in Pana, along with their children: Sue (Donald) Blaney, Pana, IL & James (Janet) Hicks, Pana, IL; 9 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2.5 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Beeler, Hillsboro, IL. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Harper; brother, Weldon Hicks & sister, Laura Stanley. Masonic rites by the Pana Masonic Lodge AF&AM #226 will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home followed by funeral services with Pastor Amanda Richards officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
