P. Leroy Owens Obituary (1924 - 2016)

P. Leroy Owens, 91, of Rosamond, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in Heritage Health-Pana. He was born May 26, 1924 in Nokomis, the son of George Cannie (Force) Goodman. When his mother passed away at a young age, he was adopted by his grandparents, Hughes Sampson Martha A. Owens. Leroy was raised in the Rosamond area, and lived there most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in action, and was awarded the Purple Heart, and several other medals. Leroy was a member of the Pana VFW; Disabled Veterans; Christian County Sheriff's Association. He retired in 1986 from the Rosamond Co-Op, where he had worked for over 20 years. He enjoyed making clocks out of anything, attending auctions, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. P. Leroy Owens Martha J. Reulecke were united in marriage on June 2, 1946 in Rosamond. She preceded him on July 3, 1998. He is survived by his daughter: Brenda Harrison, Stewardson, IL; granddaughters: Lori Harrison and Cindy Hartke, both of Stewardson, IL; 2 great grandsons: Steven (Elizabeth) Hartke and Zane Brandt; 2 great-great grandchildren: Alaina Carter; and several nieces nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded by his parents; grandparents; brothers, George Owens Wilbur Owens; sister, Ferne Snow; and son-in-law, Paul Harrison. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Altman officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond with military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
