Luella Marie Gatons Stenlund Obituary (1917 - 2009)

Luella Marie Gatons Stenlund died on March 25, 2009. She was born on December 20, 1917 in Pana, the daughter of Harry and Grace Corley Gatons. She moved to Chicago prior to WWII. She supported the war effort as a worker in a radar assembly plant. Following the war, she had a long career as a manicurist and beauty shop manager to celebrities at the exclusive Palmer House Salon in downtown Chicago and the prestigious John Guzaldo Salon on the Gold Coast. She retired at age 72 and moved to Concord, California. Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Norris Gatons; and sister, Ila Gatons Eckstadt. She is survived by her dear son, Philip Norris Newbold and daughter-in-law, Audrey Doll of Port Orchard, WA; former daughters-in-law, Harriet Newbold of Grand Rapids, MI Gayle Fehr of Walnut Creek, CA; granddaughters: Donna Newbold of Elgin, IL; Janet Newbold of Susanville, CA; Julia Newbold of Walnut Creek, CA; great grandchildren: Kathryn and Jason Newbold of Susanville, CA; and long-time friend, Matt Chapman of Concord, CA. She will be truly missed by many loving friends and family members. Funeral Information A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in Tower Hill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Terry O'Brien officiating.
