John L. "Jack" Schafer Obituary (1928 - 2012)

John L. "Jack" Schafer, 83. of Pana died Saturday, March 24, 2012 in Pana Community Hospital. He was born August 16, 1928 at home in rural Pana, the son of John Joseph Flossie Nelle Elvers Schafer, deceased. A graduate of Pana Township High School Class of 1946, he lived his entire life in Pana and in the same home for over 60 years after his marriage and after retiring from farming. Jack was a member of the United In Faith Church, Pana Masonic Lodge #226 AFAM; past member of Pana Elks #1261; Pana Sportsman's Club; founding member of Pana Fire District and was a Pana Township official for 12 years. He enjoyed antique tractor shows, playing poker and pool and collecting pictures of Pana history. John L. Schafer and Lorene E. Kramer were united in marriage on December 18, 1947 in St. John's Church Parsonage in Pana. He is survived by his wife: Lorene Schafer, Pana; children: Mike Schafer wife Gayle, Pana, IL; Sharon Nelson-Long husband Marshall, Lehigh Acres, FL; Raymond Schafer wife Kay, Holmen, WI; grandchildren: Aaron Schafer wife Sue; Kelly Williams; Kyle Schafer and Cori Schafer; 3 great grandchildren: Eric Lizzie Schafer and Marissa Williams; brother: William Joseph Schafer DVM wife Janice, Decatur, IL; and by his sister: Norma June Rever husband George, Assumption, IL. Funeral Information Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in United In Faith Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Marilyn Rauch officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 until time of service in the church.
