Harry "Jack" Potts Obituary (1939 - 2018)

Harry "Jack" Potts, 79 of Tower Hill, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 in his home. He was born January 24, 1939 to the late Harry V. & Florence E. (Perry) Potts. He married Joann Carpenter on January 31, 1962 in Hillsboro, IL and she preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2015. Jack had lived in the Tower Hill area his entire adult life. He graduated from Pana High School in 1957, worked many years for Huttes Brothers Construction in Moweaqua, IL as a foreman, and then in early 90's he began working as a foreman for Grain Systems Inc. (GSI) in Assumption, IL where he retired in 2004. After retirement from GSI, he was a part-time employee at Tower Hill Township working as big machine operator, snow plow driver and "jack" of all trades. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion his entire life revolving around field trialing racing dogs and coyote hunting with dogs, which he was able to do right up until his last days. He had Coyote hunted with his dogs and his "hunting buddies" on Friday and was preparing to go to a field trial with his son Jim when he passed early Saturday morning unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack. Jack is survived by his children Cheryl Riggs of Phoenix, AZ, Jackie Lee Potts of Zion, IL and James "Jim" Donald (Lisa) Potts of Springfield, IL; a stepson, Mickey Walton (Gloria) of North Windham, CT. He had 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joann Potts, and a sister Elaine Potts. Funeral services for Jack will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Leon Goff officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. in Hersman Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, IL. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in Jack's honor may be made to the Tower Hill First Responders, P.O.
