Edward Carl "Sonny" Johnston Obituary (1939 - 2023)

Edward Carl "Sonny" Johnston, 84, of Witt passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield in the presence of his family. He was born April 10, 1939 in Cayce, KY to Edward Cecil Johnston & Elva Jewell (Burns) Denson. He married Beverly Cearlock on October 1, 1966. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2020. Sonny was a U.S. Marine veteran and worked as a union glazier in his youth. He spent the majority of his older life as an amazing stay-at-home grandpa and enjoyed rebuilding engines in his spare time. He was an avid collector of classic cars. Sonny is survived by his children: Sherry (Duane), Ross (Lisa), Twila, Cathy, Carol & Betty; 11 grandchildren: Brodan, Victoria (Shane), Kiley, Cayce (Brittany), Mercedes, Tyler (Madison), Colt, Hunter, Kenneth, Justin (Kassi) & Stephanie (Steve); 8 great grandchildren; 5 siblings: Stephen, Gala, Michael, Debra & David and brother-in-law, Larry. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Johnston; mother, Elva Jewell Denson; daughter-in-law, Lisa; siblings-in-law: Judy & Jay and siblings: Jeanette, Linda, Rick & Cliff. Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation for Sonny will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Memorials in Sonny's honor may be made to the family and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
