Dorothy (Drain) Williams Obituary (1924 - 2021)

Dorothy (Drain) Williams, 96, of Oconee went to join her beloved husband Willie on Saturday, January 2, 2021. She was born August 28, 1924 in Oconee, daughter of the late William D. & Ethel (Hinton) Drain. Dorothy married Willie Williams on June 1, 1946 in Pana. They were devoted to each other for 73 years until Willie passed on September 21, 2019. They began corresponding with each other during WWII at the urging of Dorothy's friend and her husband, who was serving with Willie in the Navy. The first thing Willie did when done serving was come straight to Illinois to meet Dorothy instead of going home to Florida. We kids like to think it was love at first sight. Dorothy was a graduate of Pana High School, Class of 1942. She was a member of the Oconee Methodist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church and Eastern Star, Oconee. She worked as the church secretary and youth group leader, and also worked at First National Bank of Pana as a bookkeeper. Dorothy was self-taught pianist/organist and played for church services, choir, weddings and funerals since she was 16. Dorothy was a wonderful mom, grandma and great grandma with plenty of love, fun and ornery to make her family feel so blessed to have her. Dorothy is survived by her children: Linda Ingram, West Newbury Port, MA; Jane Costello, Danville, IL; Dan Williams, Oconee, IL; grandchildren: Amy (Roy) Youngs, Doug Shute, Shane (Kathy) Williams, Becky Ingram (Thohahente), Sarah Ingram and great grandchildren: Brielle Johnston, Jules Johnston, Dalton Williams, Brett Hunt, Bella Bryan, Elizabeth Ingram. In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ennis Drain. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Dorothy's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
