Dave L. Spurgeon Obituary (1930 - 2020)

Dave L. Spurgeon, 90, of Pana passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 in Heritage Health--Pana. He was born May 4, 1930 in Opal, South Dakota, son of the late Lewis & Julia (Olson) Spurgeon. He married Elsie Crowe on February 19, 1952 in Rosamond and she survives. Dave served in the U.S. Army. He was then co-owner of Beyers & Spurgeon Construction, helping to build Oak Terrace, of which he was also co-owner. He then opened Ace Hardware in Pana, worked for Pana Bait, and was the owner of Grandpa's Hardware. Most recently, he worked for Nohren's, was a grain driver for Stolte Farms and just did a little bit of everything. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking & spending time with his grandchildren. Dave is survived by his daughters: Julie (Don) Stolte, Rosamond, IL; Penny (Kirk) Taylor, Pana, IL; Pam (Mark) Beyers, Pana, IL; Jeanette Spurgeon (Steve), Atwood, IL; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and sister, Doris Klunt, Yamina, WA. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Norman Spurgeon. A memorial service for Dave will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Walters officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home. Memorials in Dave's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
