Darwin Niehart Obituary (1939 - 2015)

Darwin "Deets" Niehart died January 10, 2015 at the home of his companion Rena' Oakley, Pana, IL after a courageous 7-year battle with chronic lymphocetic leukemia and lung cancer. Darwin "Deets" Niehart was born August 12, 1939 in Pana, IL. He was the son of Glenn "Boney" and Ursala "Boots" Niehart. After graduating from Pana High School in 1957, Darwin served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. Darwin worked as a brakeman for the Wabash/NS Railroad from 1961 to 1993. After retiring in 1993, Darwin moved to Oconee, IL. Darwin was a member of the Pana Christian Church. Best known for his quick wit and happy spirit, he enjoyed joking, fishing, talking about the good ole days with friends, gardening, his pets, and being in the great outdoors. Darwin is survived by his children, Donald (Breanne) Niehart, Effingham, IL; Brad (Collette) Weakly, Highland IL; Laura (David) Paruleski, Shumway, IL; Marvin (Lynne) Weakly, Elsberry, Missouri; brother Glenn (Lois) Niehart, Pana, IL; 9 grandchildren; companion and care givers Rena' and Lisa Oakley, Pana, IL and dear friends Steve Bain and Gary King. Darwin was preceded in death by his father, mother and beloved sister Darlene Stumm. Funeral Information At Darwin's request, cremation rites were accorded and no formal services will be conducted. He did not like goodbyes, and preferred to say "I'll see you on the other side".
