Dan Doyt Jeffrey Obituary (1922 - 2008)

Dan Doyt Jeffrey, 85, Pana, IL died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in Taylorville Care Center. He was born July 6, 1922 in Chrisney, Indiana, the son of Wallace and Mathilda (Trinkle) Jeffrey. When he was 10 years old, he came to Pana with his parents who operated the Standard Station located at the end of the Bear Creek Road. He was a graduate of Pana Township High School. During World War II, he was leader of the fueling battalion for the tanks nicknamed Hellcats, the armored division in Patton's 3rd Army. He was with them from England through Germany and was in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge. Dan retired from Sugar Creek Creamery and he and his wife, Edna, operated Jeffrey's Flowers and were involved in farming. He and Edna took great pride in their garden. He was a past member of Pana VFW Post #4431. Dan married Edna M. Barringer on September 10, 1946 in Pana, IL. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2008. He is survived by his son, Dennis Jeffrey wife Anna, Taylorville, IL; grandson, Adam Jeffrey wife Jean Ann, Taylorville, IL; 5 great grandchildren: Gabriel, Addison, Grace, Aidan, Ayanna. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Jack Jeffrey Llewelyn Jeffrey a sister in infancy. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Joe Mollet officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by VFW/American Legion/AmVets Honor Guard, Pana. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
