Cecil L. Beck Obituary (1921 - 2011)

Cecil L. Beck, 89, Oconee, IL, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was born November 14, 1921 in Herrick, IL, the son of Jesse Benton Zelma Alice (Jones) Beck. A graduate of Ramsey High School, Cecil served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Western Pacific. He lived most of his life in Herrick Oconee, except when he was in the service. Cecil was a farmer and enjoyed bowling and Pana School sports. He was also a fan of the Illini and Cardinals. He was a member of the Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee; Pana School Board for 12 years; Pana Community Hospital Board; Oconee Methodist Church, where he also served on the board; and the Farm Bureau. He also played on the Pana adult baseball basketball leagues. Cecil L. Beck and Florence M. Downs were united in marriage on November 8, 1947 in the First United Methodist Church parsonage in Pana. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2002. He is survived by his children: Lawrence Beck wife Gail, Urbana, IL; Linda Beck husband Richard, Ramsey, IL; Debra McFarling husband Fain, Moweaqua, IL; Christine Cothern husband Jerry, Ramsey, IL; and Cathy Dust husband John, Simpsonville, SC; 11 grandchildren: Richard, Lisa, Cheryl, Jesse, Phillip, Cecil (C.J.), Wesley, Abby, Sadie, George and Maggie; 18 great grandchildren: Emma, Ethan, Kailey, Riley, Carter, Noah, Ava, Harrison, Briana, Will, Devon, Chad, Clint, Tiffany, Andrea, Timmy, Katelyn Evan; 3 great-great grandchildren; Hayden, Kaden, Maci; brothers: Rollie Beck wife Betty, Greencastle, PA Johnny Beck wife Rosie, Pana, IL; and sisters-in-law: Teresa "Toots" Beck, Oconee, IL Joyce Beck, La Puenta, CA. He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Robert; and brothers: Cyril Beck, Raymond Beck, Jerry Beck. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Edmund Hill officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery, Herrick, IL with graveside military rites by Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
