Bernice C. "Bea" Goettig Obituary (1904 - 2008)

Bernice C. "Bea" Goettig was born October 21,1904 on the Bodell family farm outside Otho, Iowa. She passed away June 29, 2008 at her home in High Desert Haven in Ridgecrest, California. She was the youngest of four children, two sisters and one brother, all of whom preceded her in death. Bea graduated high school in Ft. Dodge, IA and married Herb Goettig in 1927. They lived in Iowa, Texas, and Louisiana before settling in Pana, Illinois in 1938, where they spent the rest of their married life. Bea was very active in the community there, serving several years as chairman of the March of Dimes during the years when polio was a serious threat to children everywhere. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and held several volunteer positions there. Her other chief interests included golf and bridge, and she excelled at both, holding the Women's Golf Championship at Pana Country Club for several years. Herb passed away in 1977, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary. Bea is survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Donnie Goettig, granddaughter Susan Park and husband Kem, all of Ridgecrest, grandsons Jeff Goettig of Atascadero, CA and Jon Goettig of Bakersfield, CA, great granddaughter Kristy Park and great grandson Jason Park, both of Ridgecrest. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who kept in touch with her throughout her life, which she greatly enjoyed. Funeral Information Bea will be buried in the family plot in the Rosamond Cemetery near Pana, Illinois. Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Rosemond Grove Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. David Hultberg, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Pana officiating.
