August "Aug" Kronshagen Obituary (1923 - 2013)

August "Aug" Kronshagen, 89, of Pana, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was born December 22, 1923 in Pana, the son of August Mary Wolf Kronshagen. Aug was a graduate of Pana Township High School, Class of 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He lived his entire life in Pana, and was the co-owner of George's Candy Shop with his friend Avgary Kehias from 1949-1991. In the 60's and 70's, he was the voice of Pana Panthers Basketball Football on WTIM. He also helped coach little league with his brother, and ran the scoreboard for Pana Panther football home games. Aug was an avid cardinal fan. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana; Pana Lions Club; Pana Masonic Lodge AFAM #226. He was a past member of Pana Chamber of Commerce; Pana Community Hospital Board; Pana Sports Boosters; Pana Quarterback Club; Pana Music Boosters; Pana Knights of Columbus; Friends of the Library; Rose City Saddle Club. In 1999, he was co-Grand Marshal of the Pana Labor Day Parade with Avgary Kehias. August Kronshagen and Vivian L. Overlot were united in marriage on June 4, 1949 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana. He is survived by his daughters: Cindy Duez husband Kevin, Pana, IL and Debby Clay husband Gary, Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Matt Duez wife Parvina, Mike Duez wife Erin, Katie Lehman husband Luke, Kayla Duez, Dani Fouts husband Dan; 7 great grandchildren: Shelby, Luckas, Brandon Lehman; Mary Duez; Julie Duez; Alex Evan Fouts. He was preceded by his parents; wife on September 30, 1999; brother, Arthur Kronshagen on July 7, 2009. Funeral Information A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the church.
