Alberta Monica "Bert" Merrifield Obituary (1917 - 2005)

Alberta "Bert" Merrifield, 88, of Pana died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. in her home. She was born July 6, 1917 in Christian County, IL, the daughter of Charles Eva Teresa Veling Bertin, deceased. She was a graduate of Pana Township High School and lived her entire life in the Pana area. A homemaker, she enjoyed bingo and word puzzles and was an avid reader. Alberta married Richard E. Merrifield on May 12, 1937 in Pana, IL. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1992. Bert is survived by 6 sons and 4 daughters: Richard Merrifield (Bernice), Pana, IL; Eva Neece (Richard), Pana, IL; Bill Merrifield (Georgette), Pana, IL; Tom Merrifield, Pana, IL; Bob Merrifield (Jan), Louisiana; Jim Merrifield (Cheryl), South Carolina; John Merrifield (Roberta), Ramsey, IL; Norma Wallace (Norman), Tower Hill, IL; Shirley Smart (Sherman), Tower Hill, IL; and Tina Janssen (Dan) Tower Hill, IL; 30 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and by her special friend and sister-in-law: Alma Bertin, Pana, IL. Alberta was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 grandsons. Funeral Information Funeral services will be Friday, October 21, 2005 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Don J. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
