Phyllis "Kim" Burns Obituary (1938 - 2018)

Phyllis "Kim" Burns, 79 of Pana, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 in Springfield, IL. She was born September 26, 1938 in Ashland, KY to the late John & Cassie (Lewis) Gaines. She married Jerome Arthur Burns in 1957 in Japan and he preceded her in death. Phyllis proudly served her country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Upon completing her time in the military, she worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Mission, TX. She loved crafts, jewelry making and playing cards with her Hickory Estate card buddies. Phyllis is survived by her children Maureen "Moe" (Gregg) Bruns of Rosamond, IL and Michael (Kathi) Burns of Berwyn, IL; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and siblings Rhoda Clark and John Gaines; and her "special kids". She was also preceded in death by a son Jerome Arthur Burns, Jr.; daughters Catherine Burns and Correen Burns; and sister Helen Gaines. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with Wendell Culberson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Mt. Carmel Cemetery chapel, Hillside, IL at 10:30 a.m. Memorials are suggested and may be made in Phyllis's honor to the Christian County Historical Society & Museum, 325 Abe's Way, Taylorville, IL 62568 and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, who is assisting the family.
